NO ENTRY Markings on Old London Road

7 September 2026

The Parish Council has been concerned by instances of drivers heading along the Old London Road in the wrong direction and have successfully lobbied Suffolk County Council Highways to deploy "NO ENTRY" markings on the road surface at the Elm Lane/Church Lane staggered crossroads and at Whight's Corner using durable Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) surfacing. This is not as comprehensive as we pushed for, but the method has apparently been used successfully elsewhere in the county to address the same issue.

The night time road closure needed to put the markings down safely will take place either Friday, 4th September or Monday, 7th September 2026. An additional "Dual Carriageway" sign has already been placed in Church Lane to replace one that was missing.

We remain grateful to County Councillor Hudson who has funded the work from his Locality Highways Budget.

If residents observe drivers deliberately driving down the wrong carriageway in a dangerous fashion, this should, of course, be reported immediately to the Police.
