Large construction vehicle movements on A14 and A12
Mid-September until late-October 2026 (Mon - Thurs only)

As part of the work to upgrade the electricity transmission network between Bramford substation, Suffolk and Twinstead Tee in Essex, National Grid are delivering construction materials to their main construction compound (north of Leavenheath) via the A14 and A12 in September and October 2026.

This work is connected to the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement, part of The Great Upgrade - the largest overhaul of the electricity grid in generations.

From Monday to Thursday between 14 September and the end of October 2026, up to two deliveries of large construction materials from the Port of Felixstowe to the National Grid compound (north of Leavenheath) will take place each day. The deliveries will be timed to avoid rush hour and they will not leave the port until after 9am.

The size of the materials being transported means they can't be moved using standard vehicles and will require a police escort; there will be no need for any road closures for deliveries to take place.

Starting at the Port of Felixstowe, the delivery vehicles will travel along the A14 moving onto the A12 at J55 Copdock Interchange. The delivery vehicles will leave the A12 at J28 Colchester North interchange, connecting onto the A134 and up to the main construction compound (north of Leavenheath) via A1341 Via Urbis Romanae.
