National Highways plan to carry out resurfacing work on the A14 eastbound between junctions 55 and 56 for Copdock. Once complete, drivers should benefit from a safer and better-defined road surface.

They plan to complete this work over one night on Friday 14 August 2026 and will work between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

Note that emergency vehicle access will be permitted through the road during the work.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, they will need to close the A14 eastbound between junctions 55 and 56, and divert traffic as follows:

  •  Exit the A14 eastbound at junction 55.
  • Follow the A1214 ring road through Ipswich.
  • Continue on the A1214 until you reach the A12 Martlesham roundabout.
  • Take A12 southbound exit.
  • Continue along the A12 to rejoin the A14 at junction 58.

A map of the diversion has been included below.
