MESSAGE FROM NATIONAL HIGHWAYS:
National Highways will be carrying out repairs to the southbound section of Birchwood Road Bridge, which crosses the A12. These essential repairs will help ensure the bridge remains safe and reliable for many years to come.
The work is planned to take place over three weeks, from Monday 7 September to Monday 28 September 2026. They will work overnight between 9pm and 5am, with some traffic management measures remaining in place during the day and at weekends. Please note that dates may change due to adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances.
They'll do everything they can to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

To carry out the repairs safely, the following closures will be required:
The main A12 southbound diversion is longer than usual to provide a suitable route for all vehicle types. To help maintain safety along the diversion route, they will implement anti-speeding measures and install temporary message signs.
