Parish Council
The Parish Council is pleased to advise residents that the renovation works to the bus stop island, aimed at delivering a greatly improved and more welcoming space for residents and visitors, will commence today.
As part of the project, the old brick bus shelter will be replaced with a bespoke new oak shelter. This thoughtfully crafted structure has been designed to enhance both functionality and visual appeal and will provide improved protection from the elements while reflecting the character and heritage of the parish.
Another key feature of the project will be the careful restoration of the beautiful oak memorial seat, which has for too long been hidden by overgrown shrubs and the previous horse chestnut tree. The restoration will honour its original craftsmanship and commemorative significance whilst also providing a comfortable and welcoming place to rest once again.
Finally, the entire island will be resurfaced to improve safety and accessibility and provide a clean and level finish for pedestrians, including those with mobility needs.
The Parish Council has been delighted to engage with the services of Kristan Webber and Matt Green from the village to undertake the renovation on the back of their superb work on the cricket pavilion extension.
Funding the new shelter has been secured from the transport promotion team within Suffolk County Council; we are also grateful to County Councillor Hudson for his contribution to the cost of the memorial seat restoration.
The work will be done in stages but it is hoped that the new shelter and memorial seat restoration will be completed by 18th September 2025. A temporary bus stop outside the Church Room will be in use for the duration. The Parish Council thanks residents for their patience and hope they will support the project and be pleased with the end product.
