S.I.D.s Up and Running & Other Speed Matters

Residents will have noticed that the Speed Indicator Devices are now operational in both The Street and Chapel Lane. As well as helping drivers to limit their speed, they will also capture useful data about average speed and other aspects of driver behaviour.

The Council is grateful to Suffolk County Cllr Chris Hudson for providing a significant contribution to the overall cost of these devices and to Will Moser and Matt Green for implementation support!

Other points to highlight....

1. Our Community Speedwatch Team will now shift their focus to both Back Lane and Elm Lane where, sadly, it was not possible to identify any possible S.I.D. locations that met the SCC / Police visibility criteria. We would still like to have a deeper pool of volunteers prepared to support this initiative, so if any residents can spare an hour or two in support of reducing vehicle speeds within the village, please contact Sue Frankis at clerk@copdockandwashbrook.org.

2. The Parish Council continues to pursue a formal application for a 20mph speed limit along Elm Lane, Back Lane and The Street. The recent very serious accident in Elm Lane involving a car and a cyclist underlines, sadly, the case for such a change. We will continue to keep residents advised of progress on this.

3. It is not possible to deploy Community Speedwatch teams, S.I.D. devises or ANPR cameras along the Old London Road due to the higher speed limit contravening Suffolk Police safety criteria. We will continue to press for more regular and visible mobile safety van visits.
