"Copdock leaders hope to reduce speed limit to 20mph.

Community leaders of villages near Ipswich have agreed to take the actions required to reduce the speed limit on their roads to 20mph.

During a meeting last week, members of Copdock and Washbrook Parish Council unanimously agreed to ask Suffolk Highways to reduce the speed limit from 30mph on their roads.

They wish [for this] to effect Back Lane, Elm Lane and The Street.

In the meeting, councillors were told that a poll carried out in January this year showed that 84% of residents along these three roads were in favour of the reduced speed limit.

Suffolk County Councillor for the area Christopher Hudson has also shown his support for the changes and has agreed to take the issue to the county council's highways committee.

For a formal decision to be made, the highways team will need to write a speed limit report - which will end up costing £550 plus the cost of the surveys covering the three roads.

The council has also recently tried to control speeding in the village with the inclusion of speed indicator devices along The Street and Chapel Lane."
